What kind of effect do politics and/or religion typically have on your chess playing?  How can you use this to your maximal benefit?

Wearing an "I love Satan" t-shirt against religious people.

As an agnostic libertarian, I never know what to do with my bishops & have acquired an unhealthy disregard for my king's defences. ;-)

Obviously no effect at all. Why would you even have to ask the question?

I seem to recall that at the end of "1984", Winston Smith plays chess as an indication of how the system has beaten down his poiitical aspirations and Orwell seems to suggest that Winston now pursues what is trivial instead of what is profound.

I can't advise on the evils of debt based currency, false flag terriorism or a host of other stuff to people who won't or can't listen, but I can express myself uniquely and at least exercise a degree of freedom and creativity within the limits of the chessboard.

Wasn't there a guy whingeing about somebody with a Jesus avatar?

If you are playing against an anti-Papist, see if you can lure him into giving up his Queen to destroy one of your Bishops.

As an Existentialist I shouldn't be playing chess at all as one shouldn't delude thyself that it really means anything in the long run (think billions of years). But damn it, if I am going to be miserable I might as well be happily miserable. But truth be told, one shouldn't fall in love with life because it isn't forever. Chess along with everything else is just a diversion from the inevitable, nothingness.

I read this joke that caused me to chuckle. This fella goes to a seance and is spoken to my a dead chess playing friend. The living friend asks about chess in the afterlife. The spirit friend says yes, chess is played. There is some good news and some bad news for you. The good news is we have Alekhine,Morphy , Fischer, Lasker and the rest....So what's the bad news then ? You have black against Capablanca next Saturday !
