Chess Puzzles Over the Board with Friends?

Hello people of Chess.com! I am very new to chess, I've only been playing for a few months self-taught but I'm finding that I really enjoy the game. I would like to show a chess puzzle to some of my friends at the bar and the library just as a pastime for us (none of us are serious chess players so it's not like this would be a tactical exercise for us, I just think it would be fun to watch them try and solve it together), but I don't know how to actually do it. How would solving a chess puzzle over the board work? For example:

  • Do I tell them if they got a move wrong?
  • If I don't tell them that they got a move wrong, how do I know what to play in response to their incorrect move?
  • Do I tell them what the goal of the puzzle is or just let them find it out (like if I told them that the puzzle is a checkmate in 6, for example)?

I'm sure there might be other logistical things that I can't think of because I've never tried something like this before. Any answers/ideas/suggestions/etc. would be greatly appreciated!

If the move is wrong, don’t hesitate to tell them it’s wrong. However, tell them kindly and let them figure the moves out for themselves.
