Go to the USCF website's sitemap. They have ratings distributions nationally and by state ... more than enough data to give you a bell-curve assessment of where the ratings hover (mean/median) etc.

About how many players in the U.S. are rated from 1800-1899. I see many strong players here on this site, but not many players of this rating here in my small circle of chess players around the small towns of central Texas.
The only rating I have is here on the tatics puzzles which is around 1400.
