Everything is relative. Everything is like money. You spend money to get something. Is it worth it?

You spend time on chess (or anything else), is it worth it?

Compared to what?

Compared to nothing else? Something is always better than nothing.

Compared to what else you would spend your time on?

means is it worth it to spend time?

Only slow chess! Blitz and bullet have negative effect. What helps the brain is visualization, but when you play fast you cant do it at the level where it is beneficial. Speed chess, on the other hand, drains the brain.

Oh, absolutely! Chess is like a mental workout for your brain. It's like sending your brain to the gym, but without the sweat and awkward workout clothes. It's a game where you can strategically move little wooden or plastic soldiers on a checkered battlefield and pretend to be a genius mastermind. Plus, it's the only place where you can say things like, "I sacrificed my queen for a pawn" and not get strange looks. So, if you want to sharpen your brain and impress people with your sophisticated board game skills, chess is definitely the way to go! Just be prepared for those moments when you realize your brain might need a few more reps on the bench press... or maybe just a nap.
