Chess resources for kids

My friend's 10-year-old son taught himself to play chess. Since his parents don't know the game, they asked me to play him. I was surprised that he did so well learning on his own! He feels around 1000-1100, and I feel he'd benefit from some real instruction. I'm not a chess coach, so I feel unqualified.

What steps should a kid his age take to get better at chess? What resources are available for kids? For example, are there YouTube channels that offer instruction appropriate for children? In other words, what would you do to nurture this boy's interest in chess?

chessable has a lot of courses, chess.com's membership is also well worth the price(assuming you watch the videos and do puzzles), lichess also has a lot of free resources. Another massive resource is books, Often you can find old chess books online for free. Finding a chess coach is probably the most bang for your buck. You dont need a granmaster coach that charges 100$ per lesson, my coach is only a FIDE master(still very impressive) but he only charges 20$ per lesson.

Chess coaching can definitely be good when learning chess. If you're looking for a coach, a range of high level players offer coaching on chess.com, you can find a list of them here

Hi, I'm looking specifically for resources for children. I am aware of the websites mentioned in the thread, but take chess.com for example. It is not appropriate for children. Yes, there are chess teachers online, but do they have experience with children?

Does anyone have experience with chesskid.com, kidchess.com, chessmatec.com, and other such sites?

I dont know of any resources specifically for kids, but the kid is 10 so i dont think it is needed.
