Maybe the rule that capturing en passant is only possible immediately after the pawn moved. I don't see the point of that rule, because other kinds of captures can still be made after the respective piece has been en prise for several moves.
probably a 10X10 squares board ... with pieces randomly allocated on 2nd & 3rd rows from each side would give a new unexpected variations => then we end having extra side columns on each side too 
in fact i have no idea if this will be called Chess again 
=> never mind i am used to having so much tears as my partner keeps on leaving me broken hearted every couple of days 
but i keep missing my partner
... till we get together again , meanwhile i make myselff busy with CHESS to chill out with my Tuna Salad
