I have not tried it myself but upon everything I read, you should not expect a software to play human-style, see here:
http://rybkaforum.net/cgi-bin/rybkaforum/topic_show.pl?tid=24774
where people state that a machine plays: strong - strong - strong - very weak - strong - strong strong etc.
thats not how humans play
Not all engines are the same.
Look at these articles and others on the same site:

I just read that HIARCS is considered to be most "human" when lowering the elo level. But where is this function to adjust the elo level of the software to levels like 1500, 1600 etc.? Under "training" - "sparring" I find only 6 levels at HIARCS: very easy - easy - medium..
Use Lucas Chess. You can do many other things other than play adjustable elo computers as well.

what commercial chess software offers to play very fast (bullet) games vs. the software at certain (elo) levels, also below 2000? Fritz, Hiarcs, Shredder?
There are some threads on this topic but most are outdated.
What software is considered best in playing "human-style" at amateur levels?
