I don't see any 700 point tilt, unless you are crossing time controls for the one day.

Regardless, I feel your pain. Tilt isn't fun, yet it is a part of the up and down fluctuations which are expected. It is hard to not get attached to rating in one way or another, but the number doesn't define you - your chess knowledge, ability and love for the game to continue playing despite short-term results is a better indicator.

Perhaps this thread and my post in it will help you happy.png

Don’t care about Elo too much…

I recently hit my peak of low 1700s in blitz, minimal study just playing a lot recently after a few years. This week I have dropped over 200 elo points! Has anyone else gone through such dips?

I am tilting massively and starting to not enjoying it. I am used to losing in chess, but when you losing to players you think you should be beating it feels worse. And the drop it Elo makes it feel like you are unlearning chess.

I can't see basic tactics, or seeing threats and forgetting them 2 moves later, blundering loads.

I don't see how you can just forget or unlearn chess in the space of a week.

I lost like 900

Dropped from 1420 to 1200, something just happened to my gameplay. I don't know if I can climb up my rating again.

Just quit. This game brings nothing but misery and anger.

I disagree on the "take a break" advice. Don't worry about what's normal....just show up and play.  Just do it. Play every day, even if it's only one game. Commit!

Easy to say when you've got 2000+ points to spare

My rating was 1250, but it dropped below 1050!! too!!

Yesterday day my bullet chess rating was 1720 now it’s 1490 a 230 elo free fall in 1 day. Can anybody explain?

AstroPenguin_111

I lost 300 elo with struggling more against 1200 than 1500 and it's a lot harder to go up again cus of an ultra low RD. I know what you guys are feeling.

“to spare”?

Ratings are not a bank account. If they were, those who have reached a state of self-sufficiency find no comfort in rejoining the impoverished.

I feel you. I literally missed mate in one while playing benko gambit. Worst feeling ever…

Can you explain what Low RD is?

RD stands for something like "rating deviation" and in the elo rating system this is called the k-factor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_rating_system Basically, they are trying to say that winning can be tougher the higher rated you get because you could earn less points for a win. Although this is sometimes true, chess.com used glicko ratings instead. They are similar though.

Here is how chess.com calculates ratings:

It refers to the level of activity. When your RD is high, you gain more with a win and lose more with a loss than when it is below 80.

Thanks for letting me know, if you look at my bullet stat graph for the past 90 days you can see there has been 2 major Rating drops. Idk why this happens but after I try to get 30 Elo back each day to recover.

kengir

Rating on chess.com is a handicap. Especially in arena. So keep it as low as possible! It does not necessarily reflect your skills. There is no gain in higher rating. Only upping your handicap!!
