Your idea reminds me of Chess Boxing where they do a round of boxing followed by a round of chess.
If the beer starts flowing, the slaps in the face will be getting harder & it might well turn into a boxing match

OK...so the slapping in the face is probably a no go..just had a unanimous decision on it not happening..
Buncha wimps....I've thought about it and may substitute the face slap to owing the oppponent a .25 or .50 cents...
still no one with ideas? no one else has had tourneys at their cribs?

How bout 3 dimensional chess, like Spock used to play? Just pile 3 boards on top of eachother and talk about an existential crisis.
I'm still having issues getting beyond the being slapped- but since you asked and since there's timers, why not do it the normal way. with the person who gets flagged losses.
regarding the winners share of the pot. 50% 35% 15% is normal I think.
half the group is going to get there money back, but no one is getting rich. if all the money goes into the pot, the winner only gets $30.
oc I'm assuming you are serious- though no one Else seems to be assuming that. if you are not proceed with the slapping.

Mexi puts $80-100 in his pocket for being a scheming capitalist. The only thing left is 'round robin' tourney or knock-out.
I'd go for the knockout - make a draw. Which will bring them back the following week too & is much quicker.

I'm thinking of setting up a chess tourney at my crib.
6 players, 3 chess boards, and three of those timer things.
rules. (this is where I need some assistance, if you don't mind)
Well, you all should know, money is going to be involved. 10 bucks a person sounds right for first time around.
ok, rules...
1. 5 minute game max.
2. 30 seconds to make a move.
3. if your opponent does not make a move within those thirty seconds, you get to slap him in the face. If you slap him in the face, he gets to make a move within another 30 seconds. 3a. If your opponent says no to the face slapping, he loses his turn. -----make sense so far?
4. After the five minutes is up, the player with the most pieces of your opponent, wins.
Round Robin tourney? Should I have more or less rules?
should winner take all? This is a tournament so....winner could take 30, 2nd take 20, third gets his 10 bucks back.
feedback...any-one done this before? Chess is pretty new to me and if you don't mind me saying, I'm gonna geek out this tourney to the best of my abilities.
