I need ALOT more training in regular chess, and prefer it, but just made up a variant for fun. If it would take away resources from the site, I wouldn't want them to do that either. Anyone who is interested can play a same-pieces same-board variant using the regular platform anyway, as long as both people know that's what they're doing.
I'm wondering if there would be enough interest from members of the site for there to be separate Online Chess and Live Chess options (under the "Play" option at top left) for people who want to play variants. I've been specifying in my seeks that they are for my Force Field Chess variant, but people accept the seeks, I play variant rules, they play normal rules, they threaten pieces that I assumed were safe due to FFC rules, and then they refuse to cancel their moves! Lucky I don't care about my ratings . . .
