Chess Video Screen Capture Software Suggestions?

Hey, all,

I was looking at starting to record some of my live games (primarily for me for now, so I can view what moves I am spending my time on during games, and so I can record my in-game thoughts for my review process).  I used to use fraps for recording video games, but the auto-detection doesn't seem to work.  Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone records their own games, or has suggestions for recording software that is microphone capable.  Cheap (Sub ~$50) or free software would be preferred.

Thank you!

Here is a thought... Get a hand-held digital recorder, and talk on it during the game. Say the move you made and any thoughts. Then when the game is over, download the PGN file, and review it either on chess.com or with another tool like http://sourceforge.net/projects/pgnviewer/

Hey Guys,

I'm an avid chessplayer who also works for a video company. We just launched a free screen recorder at https://www.ilosvideos.com/simpleScreenRecorder

Hope this helps!

You can use a free one, called VLC, or you could get Magix Movie maker and use it's screen capture features

Just a follow-up on this; I ended up using xsplit.  I subscribed as I generally do when I find programs useful, and it's nice to be able to record the videos directly to desktop as well as stream on twitch.  So far I haven't found freeware I like for this purpose, since it's easiest this way, though I did note some other chess clients (I don't remember which ones) record the clock times with each move, which can be useful (possible addition, chess.com?).

The latest version of JoclyBoard (0.9.6) allows recording a video from the 3D board view. If you have PGNs of your games, you can use the application to replay them while recording. It's free (open-source) and multi-platform.

You might try OBS if you mean to record the games you play on computer.

I agree. OBS is a good one, but you need to learn how to set it up before you use it. I use OBS myself to record video games.

I've used the eLecta Live Screen Recorder several times. It's free and works fine.

Maybe you could try Joyoshare Screen Recorder. I often use it to record my Xbox One gameplay and share them with my YouTube fans. It is easy-to-use.
