Comparing checkers to chess is like comparing Napoleon Bonaparte to Gary Kasparov and believingthat Kasparov would win in a real battle against Napoleon.

You are correct the 2 games are very different. Just use the same board and should not be compared. Both are complex but different games.

Chess should be called Checkers. Because what do you say when your king is exposed? "Check" "Check" "Check". Okay, all joking aside, I prefer chess over checkers, because it is unarguably a much more complex game compared to checkers. However, if a player just doesn't have the knack for chess, checkers is a much more simpler game to master. I can play either or, but my vote is for chess!

That is the ignorant view of many chess players who like to feel superior and don’t know anything about checkers. Ask someone who plays both to a good level. Don’t listen to people who assume because checkers is easier initially to learn it is simpler to master. I have a club full of people who play both and unless you do that you don’t know. Don’t really know anyway.
Dont know why chess players do this.

All I said was it was a more complex game then checkers. I never said anything about feeling superior. Relax, buddy, they're both fun games.

I think the point I was trying to get across was that I prefer chess because it is more challenging then checkers. It's just a matter of opinion and choice, but I think checkers is too boring for me to play. Checkers can become kings when they get to the other side of the board, and then they can move forward and backward. Capture all pieces to win. Did I miss anything about checkers? Chess is a lot more complex then that. You have to use your pieces not only as offense, but defense, you have to watch for skewers, you have to watch to make sure your opponents pawns do not make it to your side of the board, you have to watch your time if your playing blitz, you have to make sure your pieces aren't getting blocked or cornered or trapped, I mean, I can go on and on, but you certainly get the point! How is logic an ignorant view here?

Besides, I just checked. Chess.com has a website. I tried going to checkers.com, and it brought me to a drive thru burger joint site. Now I'm really confused. Where do THEY go if they want to play checkers online???

I've been told that checkers players play reasonably well chess. But chess players don't play checkers well.
The conclusion must be that checkers is more difficult?
Or maybe chess players are indeed feeling superior and don't bother thinking when playing checkers.
I like both games

Some great chess players were expert checkers players, eg. HN Pillsbury.
Some great checkers players were expert chess players, eg. Newell Banks.
After the turn of the 20h century one could go to the Eden Musée and play a game of chess against Ajeeb, the famed automaton for a quarter... or a game of checkers for a dime. I guess chess was considered 2.5x more valuable than checkers.

For that matter, what if you want to play backgammon? Years ago, I had a fun and challenging backgammon software called "Jellyfish." I can't find it anywhere, nor are there any other programs for someone to enjoy playing backgammon. I looked for backgammon sites similar to this one for chess but it is amazing how difficult it is to find. I'd love to play backgammon -- in person or online -- and I just can't seem to find any place to play.

Isn't checkers that game where every piece moves like a bishop, jumps over pieces like a knight, and promotes like a pawn? It's probably good practice for people who aren't ready for chess yet.

If you don’t play. You don’t know. That’s all I say and if you want to play checkers and/or backgammon (I don’t like backgammon much myself but everyone can play whatever and deserves RESPECT) and can’t even find where to play. Can’t say that shows much.

This is why critical theory / cultural studies kind of guys should never be in charge of things
I wouldn't let one play with a Pez dispenser.

Doesn't show what? Should I stop my life until I find a great backgammon site?
