Are there any other people who care about the types of default games available for the 10,000,000 members? I am going back to playing instead of posting but this seemed too important as it can impact thousands or tens of thousands of players on this site. I will stick to my standard 30 minute and occasional 10 minute blitz games until the members respond and the admins acknowledge what the paying members want.
Chess.com ADMINS 45/45 ?? 30/30 !!

Why not comment on chess.com's blog about the change in time controls?

And, hey look! We now have as many time-controls with an interval as without! More variety and better overall balance… hooray!
I'll bet you had no idea that they have been working on this stuff for a long time. Check out their blog called Perpetual Check, where they have written often about their plans and have sought out ideas.
People like Dan Heisman have been asking for 45/45 for years. You might want to wait longer than 48 hours before blowing a gasket.

Wow, I didn't know they added a 45|45. That is great. I agree though, 30|30 might be even better for online play.

There are long time controls and short ones. If you're going to have a long one, you might as well go all the way, so I prefer to have 45 45 there. If you keep reducing that eventually you will never have a true "standard" time control; just lots of short time controls, some not quite as short as others. There are people looking for something close to "true" standard chess, and this 45 45 option might help like minded players meet up when it would have otherwise been harder to do so.

I definitely think keep the 45|45. I even posted about it a year and a half ago: http://www.chess.com/forum/view/livechess/why-no-longer-games-as-a-default-option
I do like 30 minute games too, though. And the only problem now with 30 minute games is that the endgames are rushed. Adding the 30 second increment would make the 30min games much more enjoyable because you don't have to play a decently longish game, and then lose a won endgame because your opponent kept making waiting moves and there's no increment.
I think non-incremental time controls are simply inferior for chess games (at least for club level players). If there's a 30min option, might as well add the increment to make the gameplay better.

It seems to me that having 10/30 as a default is pretty unecessary. We already have 15/10 and 30/0, which I think are pretty similar in terms of how much time pressure you feel.

30/15 or 30/30 would be significantly different from both 30 and 15/10.
It's different from 30|0 because it would allow for real endgames.
It's different from 15/10 because it is twice the amount of time.

Well macer, you are wrong as usual.

Um... I'm talking about 10/30. Read the OP's first post.

I apologize then, I thought you were responding to my post above yours.
I will edit my post.
Wait, so why isn't anyone mentioning the "custom" tab where you can create your own timing? Thus, you can choose to play 30/30 or any other time control that you wish. Or is there a reason this is overlooked?

Yes of course. But, perhaps (because I'm not sure) presets encourage people to use those time controls because you can just click on it and if someone else did before you, you'll play him/her.

Both are considered long time controls and the active players prefer the 45/45 to mimic an OTB game. You can always go custom and get 30/30.

Because when people login, they choose a default and the server matches you up woth other people who have chosen the same default. I waited over a minute when I tried 45/45 the first two times and eventaully quit waiting. When I choose a 30 minute game, within 5 seconds I am playing. When I finally did play 45/45, the game took at least 1 1/2 hours, probably over two hours. It was so boring and I hated it. There would be so many more players ready to play 30/30 than 45/45. Why not just add the 30/30 default and have both. Every single person I play 30 minute games with all said they would LOVE if 30/30 was offered.
Admins....it would be nice to hear what you have to say about this.
I am sure that 80% of the people on this site play blitz. Especially as your rating gets higher, the better players want to play lots of games. You can play six 10 minute blitz games or one 45/45. Both have their merit. But there as 100's, if not thousands that play 30 minute games exclusivly, and I speak for any players that want 30/30.
I agree that the 45/45 may have it's place, but the MAJORITY of people I know all said 30/30 is the way to go.
Admins....are you reading this?

You still haven't taken my suggestion of posting a comment on the announcement of:
Play 3|2 and 45|45 games in Live Chess!
which is an entry in the Perpetual Check blog where they first announced these new controls. Only 10,931 people have read that blog entry.
It seems you might have a better chance of reaching someone in admin there who might actually have something to do with the changes in time controls than this forum, which starts off with your claim that on the basis of 1 game, you know better than they do what all 10,000,000 members really want.
Meanwhile, it does not appear that you have even made the slightest effort to find, read or understand the efforts they have made to reach out to members in this regard.

Now we have 45 45, and...
...nobody plays it!
And people wanted even longer time control like 90 30. LOL.
All this is Epic fail.
It´s just like when people say they love reading books but ends up checking tweets all day long.
I wonder when the staff get rid of 45 45 and goes back to 30 0.
All this "we need a longer time control"-discussion is embarrasing.

I don't get your point falconetti. Even if there is a higher amount of blitz players than standard players, I don't see how that gets rid of the want for an environment in which the blitz players can play blitz if they want, and the standard players can play standard if they want.

"the game took at least 1 1/2 hours, probably over two hours. It was so boring and I hated it."
Can't say I share that experience. There is practically always something interesting to think about in a chess game. I would think 30/30 players indeed like to think a lot... I don't get what it would be about 45/45 that would suddenly make it boring. The only downside is that it takes more of a time commitment that could be spent doing other things, not that it's boring.
I am sure I speak for all 10,000,000 members thanking you for all the enhancments you are always making to create the best chess site on the internet. I happen to like 10 minute blitz games, but at my level, I find 30 minute games much better as I have a little extra time to analyze each move. I just played my first and last 45/45 game. It felt like it lasted for hours and I was almost going to resign just so I could get more "chess time" in today. I am sure there was a demand for a longer default game, and I am wondering why 30/30 wasn't an option. That is a game I would play. You can always send out an email blast to all paid members asking them what they prefer, but why not add both 30/30 & 45/45. Statistics will quickly tell which game is played more. I also like blitz games for the quick "action" as many players do. Just wondering if you ever considered 10/30 blitz? That is another game I would definitely play. Again, this is just my opinion so I am not trying to create any animosity from players who requested 45/45. I just happen to think 45/45 it much too long for the majority of players on this site. Thanks for listening to the feedback of your members. And for all the gurus, yes, I know that 100/100 would still not be enough time to fully analyze a game. But my guess is the majority of members on this site enjoy playing as many games as possible and you may want to consider some other default options. I vote 30/30 and 10/30. Anyone else want to comment. Thanks BobbyD
