ChessOK & Peshk@ vs. Chessimo vs

Hello Everyone.

I'm using chessmaster 11 right now and an looking at getting other software to study with. I know about the chess.com membership but, want something I can take with me when I don't have Internet access.

I like the Idea of the Peshk@ interface but they don't offer some of the titles that everyone seems to recommend starting with, Chess Tactics for Beginners and Advanced Chess School.

But they do offer Chess Tactics Levels 1,2,3 , Complete Chess Course, and CT-ART.

CT-Art will be later in the future as it is a liitle over my head right now.

1. Does anyone know how Complete Chess Course and Chess Tactics 1,2 &3 compare to Chess Tactics for Beginners and Advanced Chess School?

I have also tried the demo of Chessimo and It seems to be packed full of Puzzels but, there doesn't seem to be any explination on why or why not during study.

2. Would anyone recommend Chessimo over ChessOK Software?

3. Anyother Recommended software?

Thanks to All

I'm using both Chess Tactics for Beginners and Chessimo and find them both very good. Chessimo especially is excellent.

Does Chessimo have explinations why one move is better or what you are looking for? I used the demo a little and it didn't seem to have any explaination at all.

Dosster:  I think, I am not 100% sure...that when they made the Peshk@ courses, that they renamed the courses from the original.  I got the feeling that the tactics course were the same as the old one, but named differently.  They offer an upgrade to Peshk@ for people who have the old programs.

Thanks Hoklanie,

You are right I when to their site and under upgrades it shows.

Chess Tactics 1&2 = Chess Tactics for beginners

Complete Chess Course = Advanced Chess School

Chess Tactics 3 = Chess Tactics for Intermediate players

Still torn, should I go with the Peshk@ courses or Chessimo?

I have the courses prior to the Peshk@ and I like them a lot, I am going to upgrade to Peshk@...I downloaded the Chessimo trial and it looks good.  But, I like the Peshk@ because there are so many courses...and I got some of the original ChessOK products for my PDA, so I am used to them.

Chessimo has many many lessons. And certainly the strategy modules give you feedback on why a particular move is strong. I don't recall it telling you why a weaker move is bad though.

To this beginning patzer, Chessimo is faster and more user-friendly, and seems better to start with, at least until a solid intermediate.

Chessimo has lots of tactics (4320 exercises), endgames (1440 exercises + 190 commented endgames), and strategy (720) drills and a total of 71 openings (29 openings and some variants) referenced to >800 master games.  So by number of drills:  tactics/mates > endgames > strategy > openings.

Built into Chessimo is the requirement that you have to repeat a drill 6 times (computer keeps track) to consider it "learned" (basically burning the patterns into your brain for instant recall)...the computer will automatically reintroduce the same drills while introducing new more difficult ones as you progress through the Modules/Units in orderly fashion, so that easier material is reinforced repeatedly while new harder material is being introduced.

Chessimo's earlier material to me seems much more accessible to the <1600 player compared to Convekta's in my limited experience (1400-1800 = beginner according to Convekta), but builds upon that to the wealth of more advanced material later on.  In the first half of Module 1 of 6 of tactics I am already getting 3-6 move middlegame mating combos and in the first half of Endgames Module 1 of 3, I am getting minor piece vs. pawn(s) or minor piece endgame drills).

Chessimo is very simple but very effective!  No frills! No digging into the interface or tiresome reading of endless explanation. All you have to do is solve solve solve repeat repeat and repeat!
