Sure, If you look at the textures they are just .png files with the lighter textured square above the darker one. To find the directory go to the Program data path listed in the about box. from there go into /themes/boards. Its easy to modify one of the files to add your own textures with a graphics program.
ChessX - can I load my own\custom board textures to it?

Thank you for the answer, James.
Here are all the paths listed in the about box of my ChessX program:
C:/Users/Ahu Lee/AppData/Local/Temp
C:/Users/Ahu Lee/AppData/Local/chessx/chessx\data
C:/Users/Ahu Lee/AppData/Roaming/chessx/chessx.ini
C:/Users/Ahu Lee/Documents\chessdata\FICS.pgn
None of the paths have /themes/boards inside them.
What is the Program data path you referred to?
C:/Users/Ahu Lee/AppData/Local/chessx/chessx\data
is the correct path to start with.
You can download the source zip folder from sourceforge and simply copy out the corresponding themes folder into the data folder, so that it reads C:/Users/Ahu Lee/AppData/Local/chessx/chessx\data\themes\etc...
Then you can add your own designs or modify existing ones.
And if you have a particular beautiful or artistic design, simply post it back to chessx.sourceforge.net and I will put it into some upcoming release :-)

jens-chessx, thank you for your reply.
That extra-boards.zip (if that's what you meant) file doesn't have any folder in it, only .png files. But, okay I created the folder named themes manually and inside it I created another folder named boards (just like in HIARCS Chess Explorer. Because if I place images right to the themes folder they are seen as chess sets by the program). So, my full path for the image files is this:
C:\Users\Ahu Lee\AppData\Local\chessx\chessx\data\themes\boards
It works, but there are two small other issues:
1) The image scaling is wrong. They look like they are "zoomed in". Here's the screen with HIARCS Chess Explorer being on the left and ChessX on the right using the same image file Sky blue.png (from HIARCS Chess Explorer):
Also, in HIARCS Chess Explorer the board images are divided into two categories\folders: scaled and unscaled. If i try doing the same in ChessX it simply won't work.
2). When the folder themes in data is created the ability to choose chess sets is gone. Here:
Why is this?
Thank you very much.

To other readers: Do not follow the zippyshare link - zippyshare currently distributes malware.
I have never had any problems with it, but thanks for pointing that out.
Do you want me to re-upload it to another file hoster? Which one would you prefer?
I have been able to retrieve the file - thanks! The malware is located somewhere in images of zippyshare. I didn't investigate any further as I was using my productive system.
I will update ChessX with a scaling option - actually, it is something like blurring the image file. Strange stuff, but the results will be as in HCE.
I will also update the source so that both the internal and the external files will be merged. Currently, if the external directory exists, all content is taken from external only, internal files are ignored. That's the reason that the Chess Set combo box is empty.

I'm not sure which version of the program I used when I started this topic, but I have just checked the very recent 1.4.6. one and it looks like nothing has been updated so far. Am I correct? Thank you.
Thank you very much.
