CHicago Open

The annual Chicago Open is coming up, and I already registered early!!!  The grand prize for my section (U1300) is $4000!  I have learned a lot since my performance last year (I almost won money..I was 1 win away).  I will come aggressive.  I am developing a seperate opening repitore specifically for this tournament.  I won't enclose much, but I will say that it is pretty much a strictly ALL GAMBIT REPITORE!!!  I am going all out in this tournament.  Last year I played The Vienna game as white (Which I lost all of my white games except 1.) I faced a french defence winawer a sicillian Grand Prix Attack (Which I lucked up and won. My opponent blundered... He had a win, but did not see it.  As black I mainly played the QxD5 scandanavian Which I won mostly all of my black games except 1.  (I lost a close one to d4 when I played the Albin Counter Gambit)

This year I plan on taking the prize money, which I will use to pay off most of my student loans, as well as have some money for spending. (I need it in this economy)

If you want to play me to help me prepare all you have to do is challenge me!  I am accepting all challenges!!!!!

If you will be playing in this tournament let me know!!! Also if you have any tips for me please let me know... Thanks

That's a damn rich prize for just one division. Yikes! Probably the all gambit opening plan is a pretty good one, sometimes you have to speculate to accumulate.

Yeah. I know from experience that gambit play OTB is ALOT tougher than it is online.  Their is MUCH more pressure.. especially in these events where unorthadox play in the lower sections (ie Playing like a patzer!!) is highly rewarded with easy wins.  This is why the opening repitore that I am coming up with will most likely have the competition playing extremely passive... Being a gambiteer may be a risk, and with perfect play the side accepting the gambit will have an easy victory..but the problem is that "perfect play" is highly unlikely, especially at the lower levels in a stressful environment in an opening that your opponent may not be familiar with.

I'm hopefully going to play in this tournament if nothing interferes.  could you tell me what I have to do to register?

You can register early on www.chesstour.com

You can also register on site.  I'm not sure but the entry fee on site is $250

Keyif

I too have registered and will be seeing you there.

1tannguyen

I was in the tourney last year. I did well. If we meet, my name is Tan Nguyen. I hope to see you there.

orangehonda

If you go down there
you better just beware
of a man named Leroy Brown

Sorry couldn't resist Tongue out

TheOldReb

Did'nt Leroy end up as a jigsaw puzzle after some fella named "slim" got through cutting on him ?  I might be getting my songs mixed up...... Wink

Keyif

No. Leroy is here on Chess.com check out DocRoy. He plays in the Chicago Open. He gave up cards for Chess after that last mixup. :) I have played him OTB and can attest he is a tough player.

---Sorry Leroy couldn't resist.

I will be playing in Chicago this year as well.  But I'm not going to go all gambit Tongue out  Maybe I'll go Duncan Suttles in one round though Wink

4 days and 7 rounds is a lot of chess for me, I hope I remember what I've learned as I get tired.

The tournament is in less than a week... I don't drink, but what if I showed up to the tournament drunk... I heard from many people that being drunk is when they played their best chess... lol

birdboy1

wouldn't advise it

Yes but if you win then the prize money is worth it!!!!

I heard a rumor that a famous grandmaster (Tal, or Alekhine, I can't remember) Drank heavily before they played.

Chess and then beer, you're in the clear.

Beer and then chess?  Your game's a mess.

Are you prepared to play in the positions that arise against those players who decline the gambit offer?

Good luck! :)

I'd love to attend as an observer. Is that possible? I'm a member of the USCF and would love to meet you. Can you tell me if I can just show up at the door and walk around or something?
