I myself like to chat. I don.t want your life story , but say hello. Some other things. So I see you are from India. Glad you speak English. Every one that I play with knows English. Here in the states learning another language is not required. Anyway, chess is a fantastic game. You can play it with any language.

Anyway I don,t know why some don,t chat. Too serious ?

MSC157

Love to chat, too. Except during live chess. Prefer to do it after the game with extend analysis.

VULPES_VULPES

So?

The fact that we can private message, write notes on others' profiles, and commune on the forums screams "CHAT RIGHT NOW OR I'LL IGNORE YOU FOREVER!"

Most people seem to enjoy chatting during the games, but there were a few that told me -- no chatting.   That was the last time I played them. They might as well play a computer.

The fact that you could post that statement here suggests that you are incorrect.

This site is both a chess-playing site and a social site. I do not presume to state that it is a site for chess players to socialize, because it would not explain your presence here.

Lots of nerds on here that don't like friendly conversation. It distracts them while they're trying to own you.

YohannaShavit

Chatting and playing at the same time shouldn't be a problem

bobbyDK

I think the next thing will be something like skype and chess.com.

if you have mic you can talk with the player you are playing against.

What are nerds doing playing chess?

TurboFish

I get plenty of chit chat in real life.  I don't mind chatting a little bit with total strangers before or after the game, especially if they are friendly and have something interesting to say.  But I don't want to chat during an internet chess game, just like I don't usually talk during an OTB game.

What I find puzzling about this whole issue is that some people (usually extroverts) think there is something antisocial or strange about people (usually introverts) who are not interested in chatting.  We're not antisocial or strange -- we just don't think you're interesting enough to divert our focus from chess, which is the main reason we're here.  I get my social interactions face-to-face with actual real-life friends, I don't feel any need for superficial "cyber-friends".

Watch the forums for a little while.  If anything it's antisocial media.

Glass-Spider

I haven't heard that one before.

I dont mind chit chatting IF  is respectful.  I come across with characters that simply don't have manners.

even so. if your so introverted that you can't say gg after a good game then you are probably retarted like rain man and the internet is the only place you have friends, so stop burning your bridges.

You obviously don't know me.  Burning bridges?  Retarded rain man?  That's very dramatic of you.  It's amazing how quickly the hysteria and hyperbole starts around here.  As I already stated, I will chat a little with friendly or interesting members.  I routinely congratulate my opponents when they win, and thank them for the game win, draw, or lose (they sometimes respond in kind).  But I don't see reason to criticize those members who turn off chat to concentrate on their game.

yes, and i obviously wasn't talking about you as you are on here using your ability to converse with other users. i'm speaking about the degenerates on this website that can't even take the time to type 2 letters after a game. gg- how hard can that possibly be to type!? it's the only common courtesy that should be the first instinct of every person who finishes a game.. stay and chat? well that's your choice but at least say gg!
