Coffee Chess YouTube

I learned something new today and very confused by it. There is an interesting YouTube channel called Coffee Chess where they apparently they have their own rule called Clock Move instead of Touch Move. According to that Clock Move rule if you are in Check, do not see it, make an illegal move, and then hit the clock your opponent can capture the King and win the game.

First time I have ever heard such a thing. I am deaf so maybe I missed it all these years or these guys simply made up their own rule?

Can someone help me with this

No such thing, if you make illegal move, arbiter will come and decide what to do. This rule is only on Coffee Chess I guess.

Steven-ODonoghue

Its quite a common rule for casual games, especially blitz games.

Steven-ODonoghue, so you are saying that you have seen this before?

I thought clock-move means that if you haven’t hit the clock yet, you can take a move back and play another. In fact, I’m fairly sure of it.

Yeah, thats what clock move means. The rule the OP was referring to is called by coffee chess "take king"

I thought the take-king rule was that if your opponent doesn’t notice a check, you can take the king... and the normal rule is that you have to tell your opponent that the move is illegal, but if the piece you moved can be legally moved, you have to use that piece; otherwise you have to play something else.

That is exactly what is described in the original post. If check is not dealt with, your next turn you take the king.

I just reread it for the third time. The OP says that clock-move means take-king. That’s why I got confused. They are separate rules. You can have one with or without the other.

Yeah, the name was incorrect. That is what Steven was saying.

Coffee chess has 2 main HOUSE rules:

1. Clock Move-where your turn ends when you touch the clock. Meaning, you can touch your pieces and move them and move them back to make another move before touching the clock...although you can call touch move before the game if both players agree to it.

2. Take the king move - if your king is in check and you don’t move it then the opponent can take your king and the game ends.

I actually think rule #2 should be a fide rule hahaha. It should be your responsibility to know that your king is in check, if not, then you should lose.

thats called street rules, if you dont see it then you play on known by hustlers and its fun
