Hello, I never joined a league or competition, nor know much about them. Since no one has responded I will give it an attempt.
1. Point of the League
The point would to provide a competitive environment beyond just playing individual games. In some instances, online trophies, or some other prize may be collected. In addition, depending on how it is set up, you may be able to see not only your rating changes, but how you placed in the competition.
2. Point of the League and the relationship with ELO rating system (that does't seem te make sense... almost winning from a 1600-1800, and losing from a 500 player.....
Almost, should have won does not matter. There is a complex mathematical equation which involves the Glicko system and The Rd factor. The ratings of both players along with how long of a time span from the last game(s) that each player played previously, and who won lost or drawn, are put into the formula and it computes the new rating each and every rated game played. If you had played both mentioned games in the normal (non- competitive format) the resulting ratings would be exactly the same.
I am inclined to believe that matching may not be the same in a competitive format as a normal game. Joining a tournament involves everyone along with whatever their ratings are. So while they may try to match people of equal strength, push comes to shove you will get matched with someone of substantial different strength. You mentioned that most of your games were close, but a couple were pretty far apart in rating. I would think this may happen slightly more often than in a normal game where ones sets -25/+150.
As far as 150 and 1400 elo, I highly doubt that that is extremely accurate. It is simply an assessment and could be high/low depending on different factors. However just because the next game y ou played very well is meaningless to me. You will see the same fluctuations in accuracy also. One game a 90 and the next a 55. Even if you doubled the 150 to 300, that simply is not good.
Hope this helps, or invites comments from more knowledgeable people which can correct anything I said.
Hi There,
Mostly my question is directed towards chess.com itself, although I hope some others here in the community can shine some light(s) on the BIG questionmarksI have market on my forehead.
1. What is the point in general of the chess leagues on chess.com? If they weren't there on non-existent, what would be different? In short or basically; in which way and what are adding the leagues into the community have an influence, what is the idea behind it? I fail to understand that, at this point?
2. My ELO-rating has been dropping like crazy in those tournaments. I actually (when I entered my first online tournament here, lost as a 1100 player (not much effort has gone in that), losing from a 500 ELO rated player!! Like this player seemed to see right through me and make not even the best moves possible, it was almost too perfect. SO I ended up filing a 'this person might me a chess cheater. Because I could just no understand how a 500 could play this way. Usually people 500 won't see those things, let along go 3 steps further and be far above my own play. I felt was playing a 1800 minimum.
3. Then now my own rating dropped doing online tournaments here to around 700, which im fine with. I realize that the players around that are kind of similar in level. I end up always from time do.... (10 minute bullets), even tho with a big advantage. In teaching me how te see things and patters faster.
4. Still, then im playing suddenly within the same competition a REAL 1600-1800 (en yes that happens quite often for some reason).... we are most of the time kind of equal in how we play. Ofcourse I can see and notice this person is slightly better, it's in the little things. BUT not MUCH better where he or she destroys me instantly or without mercy. Sometimes I even have the feeling the be ahead or having a slight advantage at some point. BUT stil end up ALWAYS losing on time in those matches. Meaning, this person sees everything way quicker. We can be equal, but losing on time still shows the difference in ELO.
CONCLUSION: 1) What is the whole point of the chess leagues, what does it bring tot the chess community that, if was not there neither existed, would have been the difference? Then 2) How is my rating so much dropped since playing only those games (by 400 points)....and 2.5) after analyzing a 'good' or 'decent' and yes also the worst games.... is still sometimes I played my game with around 1450 ELO - AND accuracy around 78%....
1. Point of the Leaque
2. Point of the League and the relationship with ELO rating system (that does't seem te make sense... almost winning from a 1600-1800, and losing from a 500 player.....
3. one time the analyses showed I played as an 150 ELO rated!!! I was SHOOK haha, I felt the game was tactical, had some nice dynamics as well (ofcourse ended losing time again) and then BOOM, shows my/our games was around 150/200 ELO rated. I was SHOOOOk.
4. PLEASE help me answer those questions about, I do so not understand anything of it, the purpose of the league, how it effects your usual ELO, Losing from a 500, almost wining from a 1600-1800, ten analyses shows I played as an 150 ELO... while I though it was a strong game. Or at least strong enough to be at least 1000 (!!) because the game after was 1450 rated and high accuracy, so I highly doubt it.
ANd this is driving nuts en brining so much confusion. I like logic, LOVE logic, havent found it yet within the system. PLEASE enlighten me. Would be appreciated very much!!!
ME GOING NUTS IN AN INFINITE LOOP OF QUESTIONS AND CONFUSION.
