I follow very few players. But I like this person 'cuz he's so humble.

He's off to a great start (2-0-0) and he is playing on Board 2 on the big stage today. His opponent is GM Jeffery Xiong, a 15 year old (FIDE 2641).

....Stay Tuned !!

This person has a special background. He's 23 and a GM rated 2542 FIDE and plays here on Mr. Chessdotcom alot. In 2014, he won the US Open.

He goes to the U of Texas and is an ace in their Physics Department....extraordinarily bright. They say everyone knows him there....more for his studies than for his chess.

I'm on his side of the board in this rich Atlantic City Tournament. The top player can win $100,000....I hope it's him !

Maybe he secretly always wanted to be a beach boy, but chess fits him much-much better !

Here is a highly notable game of his....

I 'll take your word for it Lola.  Seems anyway like he is very talented : ''After Holt won his firm GM norm, he said: "It's pretty exciting, I guess.  I got a draw in my last game in about 20 minutes, which gave me the points I needed for the norm.  I wasn't worn out from a long game, so I celebrated by winning the Blitz tournament, then we ate some pizza."

He very humble and when he's interviewed ?....his answers are honest, simple, and devoid of any ego.

Sooo welcoming !

He's the 2nd highest-rated bullet player here on Mr. Chessdotcom (2811) and plays under the name GM dretch. He's blisteringly fast.

I've heard that a Dretch is a figure in D&D....don't know for sure.

I thought he was Sheldon Cooper's younger brother, until you mentioned that he's very humble. Smile

I played him once in a tournament (he was not a GM yet). After the game when I asked about the opening, he actually went to his hotel room to get the book and show me some lines. Seemed really nice.

Yes, he'll be 16 on October 30th....the day before my birthday !

BTW, October 30th is Mischief Night....and we all know what October 31st is !

It's an older game, I'd have to dig though old scoresheets... it was short though, so not worth looking at really. I blundered pretty early.

This was the opening, I was white.

After the game he recommended 9.g4 or 9.h3 but seemed unsure. So he went and got his book on the french.

9.dxc is the correct move, clearing d4 for the knight.

Anywhere I can go to see the games in progress? Xiong has been doing fantastic and Holt is another fun one to watch.

Conrad just drew to Xiong.

So they currently share First Place with 2.5/3.0. Tho' that first place probably won't last since there's (14) other players right now who are 2.0/2.0 w/ games going on. Oh well.

I don't think his games are gonna get any easier from here. But at least he's on the main stage - for now.

Go Conrad !!

Conrad lost to GM Mamedov (2678) on Board 5 in Round 4 tonite.

Oh Well....

This is a sharp French line, and a Holt speciality. It still has no official name, although many call it the Morozevich variation.

I'm sceptical about it, mainly due to the rather surprising gambit line 9.b4! which is evaluated as approximately equal by the silicon creatures, but IMO Black's position is quite tough to handle.

Ulibin has faced the same line playing Black against Gipslis some 25 years ago!

I forgot 9.b4 was a move. Looks like a fun position... certainly I would need to do some homework first.
