Coordinates

Hey. I'm not new to chess. I'm not the best player ever. But something I want to learn is to use the coordinates on a chess board so I have an easier time reading about chess. Is there anyone who can tell me a easy way to do this? Like a game or something which help:P

Thanks in advance.

Thanks you guys:) I'll try to figure it out from here:) I guess I should have looked for old posts before posting a new one:P

I assume that you are aware that on chess.com you can establish as your default board a board that has the coordinates imprinted on it?

I've got the coordinates on the board. The problem I have is using them:) So thats what I'm trying to learn now.

I tried looking that up. But I couldn't find anything. What is it exactly?

ivandh

Its dangerously close to vector calculus (nothing to do with chess).

dxc4 means a pawn on the d-file captures on c4.

Capital letters are used for the symbols of all the pieces. Ie. K = King, Q = Queen etc.

For a pawn, the symbol (small-letter p) is never used. Instead the letter of the file is used to indicate a pawn, ie. dxc4.

To do is to learn.

You just have to do things that force you to look at the cooridinates. In no time, you will be able to know the squares without thinking.

ALternately, there is at least 1 Android app that has this as a game. It will do things like give you a square and you have to tell if it is black and white. Or it will give a few squares and you have to tell which of the suares a particular piece can move to.
