CPUs at Chess960

I have tried to do a little googling about cpus playing chess960.  I read some reports of GMs beating some and then losing handidly to others.

Are CPUs well above the ability of GMs in Chess960?

And is there going to be another World Championship for it?

CPUs are the hardware that carry out the instructions of programs.  Therefore, CPUs don't play chess, nor do they play Chess960.  It's the programs themselves, the software, that actually play the game.

However, to answer your question, the top chess playing programs today (chess engines, namely Stockfish, Houdini, and Komodo, to name a few) are already far above the ability of the top human players, both at the game of chess and at the game of Chess960.

And thus no, there are no plans for any upcoming human vs computer chess championship, because it wouldn't be a match.  The human players would have no chance.
