How much is the first set you posted Utpic? I can't make out the website's prices and availability......Thanks

Here are some quick shots of my Czech set. Sorry for the bad lighting..
That is the nicest Czech set I've seen! When and where did you get it?

It's 2999 Czech Korunas which is +- $130. Not sure about shipping costs. Best write to them. They will answer in English. King height = 118mm, base = 44mm. These are standard club chess sets. The wood turning is good quality, and nicely polished. The only issue that might arise is the black crevices inside some of the white pieces (rooks, kings and queens). I touched a few of them up with indian ink and a fine watercolour brush. Not sure it was necessary (just happen to be an artist, with ink and brush on hand). The other set (of Mokry) I think is a little smaller and will fit better on a standard board (50mm squares). I do, however, use my set on both 50mm and 55mm square boards.
I don't speak Czech - I used google translate. There is a contact form at the bottom of the linked page above.
Thanks...Yes,I did message them a few days ago,but have not heard back......That is a very good price for such a nice looking set.-

I personally like it and have seen it 1st hand. A friend of mine has one. Other than the unweighted pieces and the Knight design. It is a cool looking set. The King looks like an pre-blossomed tulip . I can get use to any chess set design. Once I know which is which. I have no problems with playing non traditional Staunton sets.

GM Mokry sells the standard club set on this site:

He speaks a good English and site supports two languages. Cost $67,22. It is locally made by two carpenters. I ordered just the knights from him - they are made out of hornbeam (which is a whiter than boxwood).
Here is a comparison of the deluxe (mine - see above - which Mokry does not sell ... but perhaps he can order them for you on request) and the club set (RHS).

It's nice, just a bit busy for my tastes, with the lines on the rooks, huge (and double) opposite colours on bishops and then the kings and queens.. What's it like to play with these pieces, I wonder.

would be confusing

It is the standard club set style in Czech Republic - it can't be that confusing, can it?
just for us, who are not used to.

Why didn't anyone write that Česká Klubovka" ("Czech club") set was played at the 1931 Chess Olympiad in Prague? There is not a single source on the Internet that indicates this.
Or am I wrong?
