I managed to locate a million game database in SCID format. Google around for it...might still be around.
The second option is to have somebody export the famed chessbase megabase as a PGN database and then import it into SCID ( a very labor intensive, though rewarding task!)
Hi all. I'm putting together a database of chess games (with SCID; don't feel like dropping the funds on ChessBase). I'm wondering about what sort of resources there are for collecting large amounts of games online.
Someone already directed me to PGN Mentor (http://pgnmentor.com/files.html), which has a rather large collection of games by a number of well-respected GMs, as well as a large number of Tournaments. I'm downloading practically everything here.
But the site is far from complete. What other large collections of games importable to SCID are there on the internet? I'm particularly interested in games annotated by the Super GMs, so as to get an 'inside look' at what they were thinking, and the rationale behind positional strategy.
Thanks!
