It may appear unfair frankyyy27 but the rules are clearly stated. If the game is rated then all the rules of the site apply. If you want to play unrated games for the fun of it there are many people that like to do that too. Just because you hadn't made yourself aware of the rules doesn't make your opponent's behaviour unfair. You were unfair to yourself by giving yourself a handicap that you didn't need to have.
But now you know better and can move on. 
I believe in sportsmanship....ive offered draws to people on this site who have blundered....this win at all costs is sad....

As I say, maybe unrated games would suit your temperment and inclination better. Ratings are there only to find players that can play the game as well as you do so that the game is enjoyable to you both. To most players beating someone weaker or losing to someone much stronger isn't fun. The fun comes when the game is tough and both players get tested. With online games people are allowed to use databases. I also really enjoy games where databases aren't allowed -- I play live chess at a 3 0 time control for that enjoyment.

db use is not cheating!..but its use against a non user is surley unfair..as most online players dont use db I feel this is a valid point...i played one man winning 1 in 30 games over a 2 year period...i then peaked at my third mv...subsequently I resigned while in an obvious winning posistion..he asked why...i explained...he then wrote .lol I always reference the beginning....mmm does his 31 1 record stand....apart from playing as a child I was new to serious chess..as such he was smashing me in 5 to 10 mvs
