It may appear unfair frankyyy27 but the rules are clearly stated. If the game is rated then all the rules of the site apply. If you want to play unrated games for the fun of it there are many people that like to do that too. Just because you hadn't made yourself aware of the rules doesn't make your opponent's behaviour unfair. You were unfair to yourself by giving yourself a handicap that you didn't need to have.
But now you know better and can move on.
