Deal with the Devil

I am untitled, no FIDE rating. Just a half-decent club player.

Let us suppose that I make a deal with the Devil such that I will win each of my next 100 chess games. Never mind what I pay for it!

Is there a path for me to become world champion?

No.  100 games is not near enough.

I don't know. How many games is played in the title match? Subtract that from 100, then figure out the avg games you need to play per tournament. Would there be enough tournament plays and wins for them to consider you for a title match?

I feel sure 100 games is enough:

Win World Championship match: 7 games

Qualify for above by winning Candidates Tournament: 14 games

Qualify for above by winning Chess World Cup: 18 games

Qualify for above by winning Canada Closed Zonal: 9 games

To my surprise, it's difficult to get information regarding qualifying for the Canada Closed. Provincial nominees are allowed (http://ccc2012.yolasite.com/zonal.php), as are entrants via a qualifying tournament. Is it possible to qualify for the Canada closed by winning 52 straight games? It seems to me it should be ... but I can't find enough information.

I thought it would be easy - win the top section of the Canadian open to qualify for the closed, but I can't see anything to indicate that this path is still open, if it ever was. How about other countries and their zonals?

It's not trolling. A bit of a thread hijack maybe, but certainly not trolling.

It's just a hypothetical situation, so it is irrelevant how he won the games. It is probably funnier and less distracting to say he sold his soul instead of saying he cheated.

I don't know the answer to the last question. It seems like it wouldn't be possible since it now belongs to something else, instead of having a damaged one.

As i said, i don't know. I do know that if you do want to find your answer, your best bet is to go to a forum that discusses religion.

Why not just ask to be the world champion?

I'm surprised that my reference to the legend of Faust - intended to be lighthearted and self-deprecating - has attracted more attention than the question itself.

But I'll play along. If somebody wil post references regarding qualifying pathways for the world championship - with particular attention to the minimum number of games necessary to win the championship from a standng start - I will post references to discussions of Faust and briefly address the questions of _yiquan_ and latvianlover.

You will do the deal with the Devil.

100 games later you are crowned world champion.

The next morning your bedroom is covered in clawmarks and there is a huge burnt mark on the floor. You are gone and nobody sees you again.

You wake up and hear a Brooklyn accent: "you did a deal with the devil too? Well, I was given some extra time as long as I said bad things about Jews...oh you don't know me.. I'm Fischer and I am still the world chess champion".

Maybe the devil gave him a counter offer of 100 winning games to do it?
