Well, obviously if we talk about real chess , it's Classical OTB (over the board) chess.

But now days, ESPECIALLY during lock downs, pandemic etc... online chess becoming more and more popular.

So if we talk about online only and chess.com specifically ratings, which category do you think out of 3 the most important, respected, skillful etc.. AND why !?

1. Daily Chess is also referred to as Turn-based and Correspondence-style chess. games can take days or even months, with players having a number of days in which to make each move.

📛 Correspondence Cons. :

☝allows you to use an opening book .

☝alot of people belive that games databases OK for correspondence.

☝What's the difference between an opening book and a games database? E.g. if I take a games database in Chessbase or whatever and tell it to create an opening book to depth 30 , and use the resulting book. That's OK?

☝At ICCF and other serious correspondence tournaments you can use everything you want.
Any engine on any hardware, any bases and whatever you would like. You can use endgame tablebases too.

☝I read this article a while back about high level correspondence chess. Seemed than it was all about managing your engines.

https://en.chessbase.com/post/a-30-month-tournament

☝Seems like being a chess librarian rather than a player.

📛 Blitz chess Cons:

☝Makes your play superficial as it is more intuitiom based than calculation based since there is no time to penetrate deeply in the position

☝Doesn’t really improve your opening play if you don’t analyze your games afterwards

☝Doesn’t improve your endgame play

☝Incentivizes you to play “hope chess” (your opponents are more likely to fall for simple tricks, so you are more focused on setting traps than on finding the best move)

☝Addictive.

📛 Rapid cons. :

☝10 minutes rapid games are still a blitz games

☝high chance of computer assistance, friend assistance or any other information based help.

☝time consuming, When you are winning, the opponent starts taking 30 minutes per move.

☝ Weaker competition -pool of players, especially titled players

Online rapid 15|10 is best.

Blitz and Rapid are the most ideal time controls! some times Classic. but its boring

Hi
Yurinclez2

i have problem with bullet, usually if i focus on skill more i lose on time. but if i focus on speed more i tend to make blunders more often..

I like G/15/10 for online play,BUT it is true there is a real risk of having your opponent cheat or exhibit poor sportsmanship if losing.

1. Classical 2. Rapid 3. Blitz In that order.

At my level, Blitz feels like whoever can move the pieces quickest is the winner.  I prefer Rapid because it's a good compromise between speed and "proper" chess and I at least feel like I earned my win.

(although I seem to play plenty of people who think they're still playing a blitz game and often have nearly 15 minutes left on the clock when I win by checkmate)

one day per move is my favorite:  there is virtually no clock pressure, so you can relax & think deeply about the positions.

you can play plenty of games at once so you'll never get bored & there are options to increase the rate of play up to 12, 6 or 3 hours per move.

i don't mess with opening explorer, books or the analysis board while playing daily & do just fine... 38 wins, no draws or losses!    🙂

"Real" Chess... is where you play Chess.

I like to play chess and not just move pieces under the threat of a clock (Bullet, Blitz). On the other hand on the Correspondence chess there is always the chance of playing against an engine and not against a human opponent.

Therefore I prefer to play 10 min Rapid games. It's not very time consuming and it is balanced in terms of cheating (there were times I had to wait for the opponent to search their move; in the long run they lost too much time).
