Look at the Deep Blue’s move 8.Nxe6 . It’s a Knight sacrifice, that is supposed to give some advantage to White, though unclear.
Kasparov maybe expected Deep Blue, instead of to sacrifice the Knight, retreated it.
According Wikipedia: "After the game Kasparov accused the Deep Blue team of cheating (i.e. having a team of human masters to aid the computer)."
