I can't think of a single time it's ever come up for me.
diamond pawn formation

Makes me nervous....those poor dark squares. Maybe it's more likely to be the best friend of female players.
Cant say I got that joke/reference.
In anycase, such a pawn formation isnt necessarily weak on any colour-complex: just move the pawns into a "T" formation.

I got this formation in an rook endgame of a Scandinavian defense and they could take care of themselves + provide a secure haven for the king so my two rooks could focus on the attack.

Personally I like it, especially in the centre. Doubled pawns are often automatically viewed as bad when actually they can be advantageous. Also, if you have doubled pawns, you also have at least a semi-open file for it.

@Blackadder: The joke is, "Diamonds are a girl's best friend."
I think there are two potential weaknesses to this formation: the rear pawn, and the diagonals through the formation (in this case, the dark squares; see post #3). Of course a Rook endgame solves the latter issue.
@-waller-: Very true about doubled pawns. Even doubled isolated pawns can be surprisingly lethal to a King, if the pawns are on the c-file (or f-file) in a Rook endgame and the King tries to sneak up the a-file (h-file).
It's just a weirdness, but strangely anytime I got in a match this pawn formation I've always won.
They're arranged in a very efficient defensive formation and they can bodyguard your king if he's in the middle. Its only weakness: the backward pawn, can't be easily attacked by pieces. Usually doubled pawns are bad, but if I have the opportunity to obtain this formation I dunno, but I'm seeking for it. Do you concur?
