Because online ratings mean squat. Do you seriously think a GM is upset that an IM has a higher online blitz/bullet rating?
Difference between IM and GM's?

Obviously I can't say from experience, but it should be similar to differences between 1900s and 2000s - basically, not much difference. There are many IMs, for example, who have higher FIDE ratings than many GMs.
As for the blitz/daily ratings here, some players are good at speed chess, and some GMs take Daily chess more seriously than others - but that doesn't reflect necessarily on OTB chess.
A GM is a permanent title that you get, no matter how weak you become after you get it - there are 2200 GMs in the world right now.
So, to answer the question, I would just say that since ratings are a pretty accurate representation of your skill level, and IMs tend to have lower ratings than GMs, but not by that much, the difference between them, if you exclude the super GMs, is not that great. For example, I can't tell the difference between 1900 and 2000 very often, because they're pretty close.
Norms + 2500 rating. This system allows people hovering around 2500 to play in as many norm events as they want until they get 3 norms and then any other event to get over 2500. It's not a great system. On a more practical note, I've heard from players around that strength that GMs are able to draw worse positions that weaker players (like IMs) would lose and that salvaging those draws is the difference between getting the GM title and not

Gm: the player must have an chess rating of at least 2500 at one time but for Im : minimum rating is 2400
Gm is the highest position a chess player can attain

Wouldn't world champion be a higher position than grandmaster? I dont know if being a grandmaster is required to play in the world championship, but since there are about 1600 grandmasters, and only one world champion, I would think world champion is THE highest position a chess player can attain.
World champion isn't a FIDE title, unfortunately.
FIDE titles are given for *life* (fraud or cheating notwithstanding), so anyone that ever was world champion would stay world champion if it where
GMs need a FIDE rating of 2500 or more and to have competed in a certain number of games against titled players. Further, any player with a FIDE rating of 2300 or more that does any of the following also becomes a GM:
Reaching the final 16 in a FIDE World Cup
Winning the Women's World Championship
Winning the World Junior Championship (U20) outright
Winning the World Senior Championship outright, both in the 50+ and 65+ divisions
Winning a Continental championship
IMs need 2400 or more FIDE rating, (again, with many games against titled players) or to do any of the following while at 2200 FIDE rating:
Qualifying for the FIDE World Cup
Finishing second in the Women's World Championship
Finishing second or third in the World Junior Championship (U20)
Finishing second or third in the World Senior Championship, in both the over 50 and over 65 divisions
Winning (outright or shared) the World Junior Championship (U18)
Winning the World Junior Championship (U16) outright
Finishing second or third in a Continental championship
Winning (outright or shared) a Continental over 50 championship, over 65 championship or under 20 championship
Winning a Continental under 18 championship outright
Winning a sub-Continental championship
Winning a Commonwealth, Francophone or Ibero-American championship
Winning a World disabled championship
Not all IMs or GMs will play a great deal of blitz/bullet/whatever on chess.com, and so their rating will vary accordingly. Some IMs or GMs may have (relatively) low ratings but gained the title from doing very well at one event. Others might have earned the title previously, but do not play, practice, and study as actively, so aren't quite as competitive. Because the titles are awarded for life, they don't necessarily speak to a player's current abilities.
This question might have been already asked, but what's the difference between IM and GMs, besides the obvious? I see IM's on here with larger blitz and daily ratings than some GM's. So how come those IM's aren't GM's if they can play just as well, and possibly better?
