In previous forums I have written about the difference between a) over the board play and b) on the screen of a monitor, as here on chess.com.
When I play for weeks via internet ( two-dimensional ) and all of a sudden I sit behind a board ( three-dimensional ) I have to keep my head as high as possible to see the board from above, so to say...
I doubt whether people with three-dimensional insight/understanding/sense play better chess, solid stereo geometry is by far different from playing chess.
On the other hand, why should a chess player have better stereo insight ?
I will try to find more on this subject, but for now : no relation.

I was just wondering, because I remember a maths lesson in which we were talking about rotating bodies. Our teacher told us to imagine an ellipse rotating horizontally and another one rotating vertically. Then she suddenly came up with the idea that the voluminas of these 2 bodies must be the same and it seemed like everyone agreed with her. I argued that I think that you can put the second ellipse in the first one and that its volimina must be smaller. The lesson continued with the teacher trying to explain it to me, while I tried to explain my thoughts to her and ended with her telling me that there are people that just can´t imagine this stuff. The next lesson she was like "we were wrong last time" and showed us how the bodies actually look like and that the voluminas are not the same. Then she asked me if I understand it now and it felt like she really expected me to be surprised. Well, I think you get my point...
