do the best players flip the board?


I would be surprised if more than a tiny percentage of advanced players do that.

It's an interesting idea... to be honest if I flipped the board I might see an idea faster than I would have otherwise. Maybe even much faster.
But no, I've never done that, not even in OTB tournament games where sometimes people walk behind to see it from their opponent's side.

Flipping the table is a power reserved for Grandmasters, who have mastered the intricacies of the all-pieces gambit and know the most effective lines. such as pocket sand


Like using an engine, I tend to look at everything the way it is (in this case from white's perspective) first then I make changes to confirm or see if I missed something. But if you are talking about playing in a game while it is going on, no I don't flip the board.
Ironically, this is very much unlike a GM when they play OTB. They regularly walk around and view the board from all angles.
