Do us girls have a psychological edge when playing with men?

If she uses unfair tricks the answer is definitely YES Laughing

Only if the male is sexist; he'll assume that his opponent is an inferior player.

Since female chess players are in the vast minority, its a slight novelty even  when Im playing against another woman. In reality,we never know  for certain who we are playing against at ant given time. The best we can hope for is that our opponent is a human.

I find the title very offensive. Just because men are a big minority here we still exist you know. Saying "us girls" inclines that there are only women here which is not true. Just because men have a smaller brain doesn't mean we are unable to play chess well. A very sexist way of thinking of thinking if you ask me. I know Magnus Carlsen has been a model and that being a sexy model is not always good enough to beat Judith Polgar, but I promise that there is more to males playing chess than meets the eye.

To make matters worse there are some tournaments and titles which are unavailable to men. This gives women an unfair advantage and if men were allowed to play more tournaments I bet we would stop being looked down upon. It is widely known that the Women's World Chess Champion is considered more important than the World Chess Champion just because women look down on men and think we are not worth playing against.

I feel players may go easier on me or be distracted.  Judit Polgar, my idol, is beautiful, and I have seen her beat players as good as Anand in blitz.

Probably not. Polgar could be Anand in blitz occasionally because she was really freakin good, especially with tactics and combinations.

YEAH - it's like every other day I see a thread that says "men are totally less good at chess, and I'll show you some statistics to prove it!"

I wore a low-cut top to a blitz tournament once with this very idea in mind...............the strong players still crushed me, but they did it with a slightly larger smile than usual......my boobs and I went home a defeated trio.

Hey now!  :-)   Um, if you want to work on your game Friday night, I can help you.

Is there a penalty for motorboating your opponent during a game?  Should I hit my clock after I'm done?

SilentKnighte5

I'm definitely an advocate of the touch move rule.

playing someone with a head cold has a bigger psychological impact.

Agreed. I start thinking about if I need to wash my hands or not to touch my face (I usually rest my mouth/chin in a hand).

I've played attractive players before, but 99% of the time I'm only looking at the board, so I tend to forget very quickly once the game starts.

I believe, since it's a penalty, that an acceptable order is this:

move, press clock, then slap in the face last.

Some people slap before pressing the clock, but you're losing a few more seconds that way!

What a disingenuous thread.

You have a lot of replies , coz your female so yes to your question.
u0110001101101000

I had one guy tell me a story of how he was staring at his opponent's chest the whole game. "I made sure to beat her nice and slow"

Ugh, I was disgusted. I guess it's not entirely fair to feel that way. It's not like he assaulted her... it's just... creepy I guess. If I were a female I would not want this kind of attention.

u0110001101101000

There was this one WIM who came from out of the area. Sometimes I walk around to look at other games. I noticed when I (or anyone) came near her board she'd look up from her game and turn towards them with this "piss off" expression on her face.

What's odd is she wore this really nice dress, like something you'd go ballroom dancing in.

true or fasle?

Statements like these are expressing a feeling or idea rather than making a factual statement. "True or false" is the wrong way to judge it.

For example: "Chess is a perfect information game" or "People can often endure more than they expect they can."

If you take them at face value, they're completely inane. Hypocrites can play chess, and every person has their breaking point.
