Yes, the Fried Liver Attack (2 Knights Defense variation) is a good way to suss out your oppt, to see if he (a) knows it, and (b) how well he knows the variation. If he doesn't know it, he will probably lose, on time if nothing else. If he knows it, he will have his "variation" to play, and then it becomes a good contest. An exciting, tactical opening where Black essentially sacrifices a pawn or two for good development. I like playing it as White, but not so much as Black, as I have to use the development advantage before White consolidates with the extra material, and it's hard to do that well.
Do you like the fried liver attack?

have had some excess with it, still learning it. I wanted to be more aggressive as a whiote player. It seems like this attack leads to some interesting options in the mid-game.

In the interests of clear communication, here are some of the standard names of openings.
Italian Game:
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4
Giuoco Piano:
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5
Two Knights Defense:
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6
Fried Liver Attack:
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.Ng5 d5 5.exd5 Nxd5 6.Nxf7
Lolli Attack:
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.Ng5 d5 5.exd5 Nxd5 6.d4

I hate it - it's the glorification of the noobish hack attack every 7 year old wants to win with. If you don't know the theory with black (as stated) you can simply lose, but I'm not sure it's a very educational victory for the first player since the plan for white is just pointing everything at f7 and seeing if it will work. If black does know the theory, (s)he sacrifices a pawn to blunt the attack and gets a pretty equal (but ultra tactical) position. Also, *everyone* plays it at your level, so it shouldn't be a surprise. I usually play the Sicilian, but, here and there I experiment with ...e5, and I would say 80% of the games are in some breed of fried liver.
That said, there's nothing wrong with it, and a lot of higher rated players roll it out when they want to have a little fun. If you're just now creating an opening repertoire, why not the Scotch? It's criminally underplayed at your level, so you're getting a dynamic, open game AND surprising your opponents.

Check that - *Lolli* is the typical play for white at lower level. The fried liver proper requires a sacrifice.

your 70 points higher than me alison lol, your not too far removed from my weak minded level. I cant wait to get to your elite level. I am playing it for the first time and I am giving a guy almost raited 1400 a good battle-think I will lose it the end but it is a toss up right now.

My point wasn't "Look at that jerk - he sucks so hard and I am so amazingly cool! Hey, shine my shoes, Noobbiscuit!" I was just saying what I think about the opening you mentioned.......and I think it's a pretty unexciting way to invite your opponent to blunder mate.

Saccing a piece for an attack is VERY educational.

alision I know I am not in your elite level supposedly but I played my first fried liver attack and he was 1385 before game 1132-------it was a wild game it was not unexciting but very tense and wide open and wide open. He was a good player and I won on the wild 45 th move of the game when i was at deaths door step pulled it out at the last second lol. I guess eleite plaers can be beating by it------------it is not a faint of heart opening lol

don't worry guy nobody cheated in that game----andI won't give up like sorry wish you good luck-------thought you closed your account lol

It actually goes beyond a "hack" opening. Its good for white, there's really only 1 or 2 things to be scared of for white, like 4... Bb5, which I'd just recommend taking with the bishop for that kind of stuff. I used to play it and got good results, and I still play it for blitz. P.S. if you want to avoid playing against it as black just do: ...Bc5.
Good luck!

................I really don't understand your need to be an ass about my opinion. I don't like the opening, but other people do.....any opening line that still has a 'book' name deeper than the first five moves is going to be fine below the 1500 level (which - as you're so fond of pointing out - is where I am as well).
Enjoy your adventures on the f7 square.........
I am learning the fried liver attack, so far I like it. It seems like a pretty dangerous attack for black to defend from my limited use and experience. Do you like playing the fried liver attack or dont? What are the pro's and cons ?thanks
