It's strange but I just got some bad news that made me really depressed so I started to play to try and think about something else. And strangely enough I've reached the highest rating ever this last hour. I definitely play better when I'm depressed, it's strange I've heard just the opposite.
I guess the important thing is if you're in the mood for chess, not how good you feel emotionally.
