I find the chessmaster programs to be very good. The tutorials and exercises are excellent, particularly the Josh Waitzkin ones. The engine is strong too, at least it always hammers me. Although I'm sure there are stronger engines now.
Does anyone know if chess master 11 grand master edition is good?

If you're going to end up getting Chessmaster, I'd recommend Chessmaster 10th Edition. CM11 isn't that much better than CM10, but it's a lot more expensive than CM10.

CM10 doesn't have the Art of Learning tutorial section. Other than that, I suspect there's not too many differences.
Yeah, it works on Windows 7.
Oh, and I think CM10 doesn't have quite as many personalities, but really, how many do you need?

I liked it, especially the analyzing feauture speaks 'human' instead of chess-expert. The tournaments are fun also. Only thing I didn't like was that the computer on lower levels would play a nice game and make a 'blunder'. Like putting their queen in front of your pawns. That's not a very humanlike way of blundering. All in all, it's a fun game of chess but I prefer (the more expensive) Fritz these days. Nothing like being insulted in German by your computer when you play against it. (also it's far better when mimicking a human and the blunders/errors that a human would make on the lower levels. You have to look for them, they are not right in your face.)
But again, if you don't mind the occasional 'here win the game'-move... it will certainly provide a challenge. Tournament mode just makes you want to play on and as others have said, the build in tutorial is very nice. Very informative. Might even be the best part of the game. (I do feel however it is a game... it's not so serieus as the likes of Fritz or Aquarium, but that doesn't have to be an issue at all.)
Does it teach the game well? I have read reviews on amazon that it is the best videogame to learn from, I was just woudnering if anyof you have tried it.
