Does too much chess make you play worse?

I'm kinda obsessed with chess and over the past few weeks my rating has been plumetting. So i wanted to know if too much chess could be a bad thing.

Pulpofeira

Too much chess could be bad for chess, and specially for life. You are a kid, don't tell me it's the only thing you do in your free time.

If you play too much you will be tired in most of your games and of course you will play worse.

playing much without analyzing the games afterwards will make you worse.

because you get into a mode where you play auto move and repeat moves because you may be convinced it is the best moves.

but if you learn from each game, really work hard to find things you need to do better - you will improve by playing much.

There's no doubt that the answer of the question is yes . Especially , live blitz games are tempting to play continuosly . But , they just limit ur thinking .

Rather u can take some break to analyse ur games or read blogs and watch videos .

I had the same problem. Currently I hover around 800 elo and have been playing for about 2.5 months focused on getting better. I probably would have been about 50-100 elo higher than I am if I would stop playing more than 3 games each day. Unless goofing around with the computer, limit yourself to three matches a day. Anyway, this helps me regain focus.

Depends. I can play at 1200 level with massive distractions in the background.

If I sit down in peace, then I can play >1500. But 99% of the time I just play with tons of distractions.

Deadmanparty

If you play a lot, do you really want to be careful on every move or do you makes thoughtless moves?

Playing too much chess hurts your vision. Tactics are harder to see, you make more mistakes, I dont care too much for

ratings but I am well in the 2100 plus range when I dont play for hours on end, just 30 minutes a day...but if you play alot of chess try meditation for a week and then play it does wonders for the mind and your play.  25 years of playing this game atelast once a day.... if you dont learn from each game you should take a break...

Do you play after drinking? That can hurt your performance.

Neel_Gulati

I am 500 and I play like a 700 but when I play too much chess I play like an rooster. Which isn't good. So, the answer is yes. Playing chess too much does hurt your performance.

You cant force yourself to think. The self is an animal and loves to play fast without thinking. Maybe with time you can tame it

Well I mean Bobby fisher went crazy but then again mabye he had some insights

There’s not such a thing as to much chess
I truly Beileave the game wasn’t created by us because it’s the best and most rewarding game around and still after 1500 years from its alleged creation nothing is as thrilling, challenging and creative.
Intellectually like what else is out there? The game Go? Please no that’s not thrilling to a human

So if you honestly feel shooting people on call of duty is healthier for you or larping on some Witcher shit is healthier then by all means go be another SIMP

Not such thing as to much chess my boy befor I found out I had ADD and while I couldn’t formulate a plan against my areggsor humans
It ‘‘twas chess that gave me the forsight to problem solve on humans gave me the strength to call people out and win
And gave me the defence to protect my Ass

And guess what chess never ends like literally the game is a never ending enjoyment

* I had no idea about these forums until I got 50 friend requests overnight from players ranked at 300-400. I Beileave my name was leaked online because I spanked someone’s ass to hard and guess what
The game is afoot even after the game

It’s brain stimulation at its finest to have the energy of upsetting some soar looser who couldn’t just let it go
And even when you loose and feel the rage and insight of not winning,
So beautiful the games is self help
The game is you vs you practically,
Now I’m just reaping the energy and the time of all these people,
Where else could you get that on demand!

WOAH I’m a Battery?
With my Regards
