Hi chessfriends,

Suppose there is a repetition of moves 'in the air'.

How to go about claiming a draw then? Just repeating and repeating or claiming?

Could someone explain?

It's not moves that repeat. If the position on the board repeats three times, then the game automatically ends in a draw by repetition.

Thanks, very clear!

No, the draw by repetition of the position is not automatic: you have to claim it. Over the board you must write your intended move on your scoresheet and then call the referee to claim the draw. A draw offer online counts as a claim.

It’s automatic now on chess.com.
