That stops the regular scholars mate but not the variation

If however, we assume Black isnt a complete moron, it is a good bet that Bh5 would be met with g6. And after Qf3 black could play Nf6, or Qe7, or f5, or Nh6, or g6, or Qf6... hell! even Ke7 avoids mate!!

to fall for this mate you need to be a moron or an new player in the first place

Oh geez Ive never come across this "Scholar's Mate" that you speak of.  I hope I never do, it sounds like a beast to defend against.  I'll never remember all of those variations!

About Russian politics?

No. On how to avoid scholars mate. The generations of chess players are getting more and more intelligent. We finally found a refutation to the once feared Scholars mate. Now we may speaks its name aloud.

Eh, before we didn't even know about the Fool's mate. The scholar's mate, in my opinion, should be easy to avoid. it's a very eviale checkmate

I have always opposed this by offering a queen  swap.  Seems a good idea - anyone who brings their queen out like a wrecking ball will be at a disadvantage without it.

Kupov3

Doesn't d4 just win a piece after Nh6?

orangehonda

Of course playing e4 Bc4 Qf3 Ne2 and 0-0 is possible, but it throws away white's opening advantage, the queen isn't too effective on f3 and the knight would rather be on f3 than e2.

But I'm guessing you already know this blitetwinkle Tongue out

Why not try this?
