Faking a LOW rating to win !!

Hello, I have just recently experienced a few of players who ( I won't mention names )  enter tournaments with much lower ratings than their playing ability.

In Live Chess I float around the 1150 to 1250 range, give or take. Recently I entered a tournament and was beaten hands down by a 989 rated player , followed by a 846 rated player who also had no trouble putting me down.

I'm no dummy , wasn't drunk or intoxicated in any way, and there is no way I can believe these "players" were honest about their ratings.

Has anyone else experienced this ? What are your thoughts ? I just withdrew from the tournament, it seemed to be pointless.

Nobody fakes a low rating, it's ridiculus and it doesn't make sense. You are confused  because you think that 900 rating in bullet chess means 900 in classical performance.  Accept your losses and don't underestimate. Moreover when you lose to lower rated players, give credit, instead of inventing new cheating philosophies.

Just looked at the game. You should really try castling earlier next time. I think this game speaks more to you being overly aggressive and setting yourself up as an easy target for black's queen to reign over you. However, it did seem that black rallied really well toward the end (higher than I would expect for that rating).

Also, that 16 ...c6 moved seemed a bit advanced. This was a speed game, no?

I posted the game above, after figuring out how.

Yes that was the move that really surprised me ! and yes it was a 5 minute blitz. I have  played alot of these games and its virtually impossible for me to beat someone rated even 200 points higher than myself. There is something going on here, this is not just sour grapes !

Seriously I give ample credit when credit is due ! I am a very good sport and do not whine about legitimate losses. Also I do know the difference between blitz games and OTB etc.

Like you said, don't underestimate.

thank you Gumbie17 , you are clearly a very good player and I appreciate your analysis ! I may have played sloppy but generally I would be able to comeback against an opponent with that low of a rating, if it was legitimate.

Quit whining. The game was totally legitimate. Look at move 28. You (White) could have won a rook and a knight for NOTHING, a combination most decent players could see in half a second. Seriously, stop it, you look ridiculous.

Ok so i just looked at it and yes your right I could have taken the rook and later the knight. Poor play on my part no doubt. But keep in mind this was a 5 minute blitz game, it's no different than watching a play in football after the fact and saying oh well he should have done this or that ! In the heat of the moment things get overlooked and missed quite easily. That's why Blitz is so fun ! its flying by instinct, no time to think. What scares is me is the fact that you had plenty of time to think before posting your comment. : ) have a wonderful day.

Pathetic.

well this post seems to have turned into a "let's make fun of my poor play" post , instead of FAKING a LOW rating to win.

Thats too bad, I was hopiing to attract some interesting dialouge regarding this serious subject. Unfortunately I seem to have gotten a few trolls along the way .

Then why do you think they are cheating?

Some people prefer to look everywhere except at themselves to explain why something didn't go in their favor.

You attracted a lot of interesting dialog. The problems is, you are stuck in your wrong opinion and what you are truly seeking is justification. Well sorry, there is no justification.

I am not seeking any kind of justification at all ! haha my play was terrible , but, I also am very aware of the level of play for someone rated in the 800 range. Honestly, this fellow was playing far below his level. You guys can spin that any way you want. It seems I am not the one in denial here....

hey OP, pretty sure i was touching 1800 blitz a couple weeks ago, and then i plummeted to 1400 blitz. and now im almost 1600 again.
