Do you think Obama has an account on here?

Ok, maybe not... but there have got to be some movie stars or other famous people who play on chess.com!

iliosis

Movies stars don't know what is chess *sigh* sadly but its true.

Maybe they do play chess, just don't advertise it. That guy from batman that died was a player. I think I heard Will Smith is one too. I'm going to google this and come back.

Here you go, there is a fair bit of juice here:

Maradona is a famous guy.  he's a dick but he's famous.

furys_cane

Eliza Dushku plays chess, apparently her uncle is a grandmaster. Don't ask me for details because she said it in an interview a really long time ago that I don't feel like looking up.

KillaBeez

No movie stars would play it because they wouldn't know the rules.  The king and queen would be switched and a1 would be light-colored.

MetalK

Bono plays chess too and is darn good

A picture is worth a thousand words.

Harrelson vs Kasparov

Lennox Lewis the ex-heavyweight boxing champion of the world plays chess (at least he used to?!), and Steve Davis (6-time, maybe 7-time?) world snooker champion plays too. Fairly decent players too if i recall correctly

Didnt Steve Davis play a chess/snooker match with Karpov some years back ? Karpov is also fond of pocket billiards (pool). I seem to recall they played each other a few games of both with the predictable outcome.

Hey, John Wayne and Ray Charles both played chess. Don't tell me celebrities don't know about the game!

Afterthought - both of them are dead. :(

Woody Harrelson (Hollywood actor, Indecent Proposal, The Thin Red Line, The People vs Larry Flint, No Country for Old Men and most recently Seven Pounds) is playing white, Garry Kasparov (former World Chess Champion) is playing black.

That earlier list cited by Maradonna came from my earlier list, which I provided to GM Maurice Ashley who used it in his book Chess for Success.  My complete famous list is here.

Is that similar to trouser tennis?

Nice list, Bill!

Bogart and Kubrick I knew were both very strong, maybe even stronger than listed... but Heath Ledger a 2100-strength player?  What's the source on that?  If that People article listed as a reference on the Wikipedia page is right, I have a hard time believing that a player of that strength "usually lost" in Washington Square Park.

I wonder if he favored Alekhine's Defense. Wink

In a tight game against English Gm Nigel Short he'd use the pawn of God to sneak though. Then, shortly after, perform one of the greatest combinations ever witnessed. Then guys like me (awesome guys) would use him as an avatar.

I'm gonna get you a big flag with his face on it :)

Most children in Britain don't know how to play chess and I don't think many celebraties in Britain can play chess.
