I found a way to do what I want on Chess .com. I can set up the board at the point I want, and retrive the FEN at that point. I found it at http://www.chess.com/analysis-board-editor. So many tools here that will take me so long to find and learn.
I'd be surprised if this hadn't been discussed before, but is there any way to go back to a certain position of a finished game and get the FEN for that earlier position?
