Batman (aka The Dark Knight)

vs.

Joker (aka The Clown Prince of Crime)

Assume these two iconic comic book characters play a 14-game match under World Chess Championship conditions. Who would win and why?

We know from the comics that Batman is a great detective. Detective work should translate well into chess skills, as he would be able to carefully consider the logical outcomes of his moves. In terms of style, I see Batman as being calm and cautious, slowly grinding his opponents down with sound strategy instead of sharp tactics. For White, he plays 1.d4 or 1.c4, hoping for a long, tedious positional game. He shuns gambits as Black, instead preferring drawish lines that may yield a slight advantage for him to exploit in the endgame.

I see the Joker as the opposite. He is super intelligent but also criminally insane. But just imagine all of his madness channelled directly into creative attacking chess, underpinned by his burning desire to humiliate and defeat his arch-nemesis Batman. Joker would play hyper-aggressively for a quick kill. As White, his mainstay would be 1.e4, but he might also occasionally play something crazy like 1.g4 or 1.h4. As Black, he is booked up on every gambit under the sun, sacrificing pieces left and right in a direct assault on the enemy king.

So, who do you think would win their fictional chess match?

The Joker wins cause he is cheating, using little earphones.

If Batman agrees to a prematch handshake he's dead unless he applies his anti electric shock spray from his utility belt...

Rancid-Knight

Batman of course.
