Hello!

this is the print screen photo from my Fritz 12 databases window.

Anyone knows what the letters in the last column mean? The rCt, VCa, VcT mean?

and the black bar next to the opening code is sometime half red, what does that mean?

and the select key function, load key fuction etc how to use them?

thanks in advance :)

From the Chessbase help file:

On the right is a column that tells you what the game contains:

V

the game contains variations (alternate lines)

C

the game contains text commentary

A

it contains graphic annotations (coloured squares and arrows)

F

the game contains correspondence chess commentary

I

critical positions (special annotation) are marked in the game

T

the game contains training commentary

S

the game contains commentary symbols (!, !?, etc.)

G

in the notation another game is quoted

R

a “repertoire” game

M

the game contains multimedia elements (sound, pictures, videos).

P

the game starts from an entered position (studies, problems).

Capital letters indicate a large amount of commentary, variations, etc. They may also be small if the commentary is not extensive. For instance “Vca” means a lot of variations, but relatively little text commentary and graphic annotation.

------------------

The coloured Bars are Medals, different colours represent different things.

The easiest way to find out what each colour is, is load a database, and in the database window (not the board window) go to Home > filter.

If there are Medals in the database already, then there will be a "Medals" tab in the filter dialog box, clicking each entry in the Medals tab shows what each colour stands for.

As far as I can tell you can't set medals in Fritz, only in Chessbase, but I might be wrong, but I've never seen how to do it if you can.

--------

Key functions are for the tabs at the top of the database in the database window - Openings, Themes, Tactics, etc.

thanks poet666.

is the chessbase help file included in F1 help? i cant seem to find them.

poet_d

No,  have a copy of chessbase 8 and pasted the details from there.

Rich_Robinson

I see that you use Deep Fritz as well ... Have you compared Deep Fritz to regular Fritz?

i dont even know that there is a regular fritz. is there a difference?

Rich_Robinson

There is - Fritz is a 32 bit engine that is not optimized for multi-core processors. Deep Fritz is a 64 bit engine for use with multi-core processors. I am considering Deep Fritz 13 as opposed to Fritz 13, but I'm not sure the money difference (2x) is worth it.

nyannyannyannyannyan

just found out that deep fritz is for multiprocessor computer, so i guess it's better, faster than regular fritz maybe

Rich_Robinson

I could buy Fritz and Rybka for the same price as Deep Fritz ...

i'm totally new to this chess software thing so i'm afraid i cant help you much. but i think fritz interface is counter-intuitive, it requires some time to get familiar with the buttons, functions  and small windows of notation, ribbon etc. i tried chessmaster grandmaster edition once on a friend's pc, it is very easy to use. maybe it's just me though.

Rich_Robinson

Ah, yes! Fritz vs. Chessmaster ...

Fritz is more difficult to use, while Chessmaster talks to you ...

However, I like to run with the big dogs. Kasparov uses Chessbase products (Fritz, Mega Database 2012, etc.), not Chessmaster.

Chessmaster is too dogmatic. It suggests the same moves over and over. Additionally, getting a straight answer out of Chessmaster is tough too.

Fritz is more powerful across a range of tactics and moves and the variations with text commentary are hard to get used to, but nevertheless, the best!

With Fritz, try the sparring and handicap modes combined with the Attack, Opening, and Endgame Training systems. You will learn much!

I think its a common issue with chess software makers, I've yet to find one I really really like (Chessbase 8 is still my favourite to use, though I do like lots of the features in Fritz 12 - once you've found them).

My friend has Aquarium, and I find that very counter-intuitive to use, and I use Arena for engine matches and the odd bit of analysis, also not the most easy to get to grips with.

Any of them take time to get used to.

However, I have to say I don't really like the ribbon interface in Fritz.

I have to use Microsoft Office at work, I don't want to stare at a near identical interface in my spare time tyvm.   Undecided

nyannyannyannyannyan

looks like i hav a lot of exploration to do with fritz!

Rich_Robinson

I, personally, love the ribon. Everything is sorted for you!

I don't understand why anyone below Master level needs Deep Fritz if it costs twice as much. You can add free engines to Fritz such as Stockfish, Firebird and Houdini if regular Fritz isn't awesome enuff for you. I'd invest the money I saved on Deep Fritz into a subscription to NIC or the Informants  or into some chess books instead assuming you have the time to read & study them. Better yet if I didn't already have Fritz 12 (I do) I'd look around for a cheap used copy of F10 or F11 how many amateurs really need the latest & greatest copy of Fritz or Rybka?

nyannyannyannyannyan

it's free? can you tell me where to get them (houdini firebird), download them

AstroChessPilot

I came acorss some VCS "Variations, Commentary, and Symbols" of E and e in the game list of the Fritz 12 Database.  Does anyone know what they stand for, I can't find any info at all.

AstroChessPilot

I recieved an answer from Chessbase.

„E“ means that in the game data both teams are edited. “e” stands for one team edited.
