OK, I'll jump right on it!
...Um, how much is a plane ticket to New Delhi?
Of course, the places mentioned in the article are famous software piracy centres but I don't think they will be making pirated chess software programmes since the market is limited for them.
I think your a little late to the party. This guy hacked about $100 million in software, 2 years ago. http://www.geek.com/news/chinese-hacker-guilty-of-100-million-software-piracy-1535381/
As far as I know people are still making music and were making music long before a "music industry" existed. In the long history of humanity a "music industry" is just a blip and a artificial construct. Free the music!
I really want to question this entire piracy is losing revenue complaints. How much impact does it really have on the revenue lost ? Many of this "downloaders" are kids who Wouldn't be able to pay anyway. Also another factor, how many who download this material actually read it ? Very few IMO, the Internet has lead to a kind of "information overload"
During the good old days, one would buy a single book and read it properly. Nowadays people download 20 books and read 20 pages. I suspect these books serve as "advertising" for the writer. If you want to really study the book, eventually you have to buy it in physical form to study it..
The only industry which seems to be genuinely impacted with this piracy menace seems to be the music industry.
I think the gist of the thread is that creative people should be properly compensated for their property, weather it be music or movies or chess books, or.... http://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/copyright-war-over-duchamp-chess-set?lc=1#last_comment
