Forks (double attacks):

A single piece attacks two pieces simultaneously, forcing the opponent to make a difficult choice, often resulting in material loss. 

Pins:

Attacking a piece that is defending another piece (like a king or a more valuable piece) and forcing it to move to defend the pinned piece. 

Skewers:

Exploiting a line of pieces to attack a more valuable piece behind a less valuable piece, forcing the opponent to choose which piece to save. 

Discovered attacks:

Moving a piece to reveal an attack by another piece, often resulting in a check or a double attack.
