Gain Rating Points from Playing Computers

Anyone else remember playing computers to get rating points? There was a time where you could go to live chess and select a computer to play against. Then, you could play against the computer and gain/lose elo.

Yes. Most of the bots in live are gone and play was moved to Play > Computer

Last I knew, there were still some of the numbered Komodo bots but who knows how long they'll be there.

Yes, the bots are still there, but you can't earn rating from them anymore.

What I'm saying is that some of the numbered Komodo bots are actually still in live and you can directly challenge them.

What do you mean by directly challenge them? Do you mean going here https://www.chess.com/play/computer?

Martin_Stahl

No, doing a Custom Game / Custom Challenge in live and changing from Random to a bot that shows in live.

I don't see the bot option. After going from custom challenge -> random, I could only enter a username, select a friend, or select a recent opponent.

That is correct, you have to put in one of the bot names. Such as Komodo10

Seems one gets a hidden achievement for doing this ('Man vs. Machine'). Or at least, I don't remember seeing it in the list till it was awarded.

It may be hidden now, since most bots were removed from live, but I don't think it was in the past.
