Gaining so little points from rapid games

Lately I've been recieving so little points. Everytime I start a rapid game the amount I win is usually about 7-15 and lose about the same.

However for some reason when I join bullet games I lose and gain almost 8x that amount each time. I averaged winning about 50-80 points per win and about the same for losing.

Can anybody tell me why this is happening??

The site uses the Glicko rating system that includes a variable of uncertainty called the rating deviation (RD) value. When a player is new or new to a rating pool, their RD is high and will have a higher magnitude in rating change after each game. The more games played drops that RD value. When it is low enough, you'll get low changes like you're seeing, depending on the ratings and RD values of your opponents.

There is also a mechanism of rating age, where if you don't play in a pool for a while your RD value increases so you can begin getting bigger changes.

They should just start out low, like 10-50. Until you reach the 1800-2000 it's not necessary to reward 1200 players 300 points after a few games, only to get pummeled after. This is why I deflate my rating and work my way up instead of all the yo-yo headaches in rating adjustments. Glicko is fine for 2000+ players who are established, but it does nothing positive for lower ranked players. Instead, they should have bots which test specific areas and as you progress you can get more points and then enter the Glicko system.

It only takes a few games to get into the ballpark and if someone chooses beginner and is a lot better than that, they'll get to where they need to be in fewer games. Any other way and they'll be stuck in an inappropriate rating range for a lot more games.

The numbers don't relate to playing level. I can play someone 1400 and beat them, then get clobbered against a 1100 player. If we just started at the same point and got 10-50 points to start with, then we wouldn't have such an absurd pairing system. You say same ballpark, but the server is mixing major league players with minor league. The momentum should be minor to major, not major to minor.

In any rating bands, you're going to have lower rated players being able to beat higher rated players on occasion. If those lower rated players are playing consistently well, their rating will increase. The rating system works pretty well within each pool. Though Daily can be weird due to differences in play styles.

For example, my rating and blitz performance over that past year, matches pretty closely to what you would expect of my 1200-1300 rating (with a higher rating before competing in Leagues meh) with an average opponent of 1387

I don't see how the time controls matter. I can see they are weird across the board (no pun intended).

The main issue with Daily is you get some people playing it like a live game, giving very little time for moves. And others that use all allowed resources and spending plenty of time calculating lines before making moves.

At my highest, I almost made it to 2100, wchbis at least 300 points higher than it probably should have been.
