Game Database to Download

I'm trying to increase my games database at home and heard there was a website where  you could download a 6 million game database.  Anyone know of this site or know another site where I can download a big database.

After finding out that a bunch of the high rated players on here use databases (its allowed), I figured I'd start using mine.

Dann Corbit has several million games sorted by ECO code:

Icofy is an archive of about 3 million games:

Does anybody know what is a program for *CBD bases? It's Chessbase or what?

Either of these:

http://scid.sourceforge.net

http://chessdb.sourceforge.net

I assume it is the format read by the CDB program.  You can download it here:

Chessbase's format was .cbf now .cbh, and SCID's format is .si3 I believe.

I don't use SCID nor CDB, so I don't know.  As you may know, almost all programs can read PGN.

I saved a .cdb archive in CDB, and then tried to open it in SCID.  SCID won't open files with a .cdb extender, so I changed it to .si3, but then I just got an error.  The two formats seem to be different.  You'll probably be better off downloading the PGN version.

The author of SCID was Shane Hudson, but he retired in 2004.  SCID is now maintained by another gentleman by the name of Pascal Georges.

How can you find a game in this database when it is spilt into 9 databases!!!!

I tried finding the "immortal game".

After opening three databases, I find a game from 1851 by the two right people, that still wasn't the immortal game!!! I gave up.

Is there anything smaller and more manageable out there for free? Something with just the very well known games?
