It's very simple: When Tal and Fischer first met in 1959, Tal was en route to winning the world title and beating almost everyone. Fischer was a rising star with very little international experience. In the Candidates Tournament, Tal went 4 - 0 against Fischer. He never beat Fischer again!

That, and the fact that Tal was a bloody genius.

Thomas9400

Because tal is one of the most creative WCs of all time

Plus or minus results against one or two opponents [opponents carefully selected] mean almost nothing.

I have a plus record against someone who beat Fischer. This means absolutely nothing.

Chess performance is a zigzag. Sure one can go back in history and find a zag but it means almost nothing.

Andrew my luv....I badly need your support over at the 'Fischer Lacked Creativity' thread. Stop and say hello anytime....Smile....Your Lola

....which brings to mind a question. How many people have beaten BF who are still alive ?....besides the one person I had the pleasure to meet at a tournament a few years ago. I believe his name is (was) Victor Pupol.

I think this man holds a positive score against BF....1-0-0....let alone still being alive (?).

I'm being followed by a red-headed stranger. I'll go away now.

Fischer has a much better lifetime score against me. It's 0-0-0 each.

Pulpofeira

Yes, he was more or less Taimanov level...

Pulpofeira

I see you got my point. ;)

Yeah, Petrosian was ill. It was Bobby who put him in such state.

Darth_Algar

Because Tal was damned awesome.

(No idea about Geller.)

JamieDelarosa

Actually, it was Fischer who was ill for that game.

If you go through the Petrossian - Fischer candidates you will see that the Iron Tigran did many uncharacteristic errors. He was so ill and in such a bad shape that he lost to Fischer who was not at the level of the world champion Petrossian. Petrossian was better than Spassky and Spassky destroyed  Fischer  every time they played with the exception of the unfairly won games through dirty tricks in Iceland.

Petrosian was just 3 years out from being the FIDE titlist.  Spassky had beaten him 12.5-10.5 in 1969.

In the 1972 cycle, Petrosian had defeated Huener of Germany, 4-3, after Huebner protested the noisy playing condition (Petrosian just turned off his hearing aids).  Petrosian then defeated Korchnoi, 5.5-4.5, in Moscow (in a rigged match).

Fischer, on the other hand, destroyed the field in the Interzonal, blitzed Taimanov and Larsen, 6-0 each, and badly manhandled Petrosian, 6.5-2.5

Fischer proved he had no peer in the history of chess, setting performance rating marks that have never been beaten, even wtih modern-day rating inflation.

Fischer stomped those commie scum bags like the mighty Tide beats their opponents !

Ofcourse Auburn is a bigger rival , being in the same state .

Ahaha, you just made my day. Did you see what you posted? On your picture, the elephant Petrosian has just smashed the weak cat Bobby. Shame on you! Fischer was not so bad. He beat Geller and Tal once and drew Smyslov.

Try again
